Why Sovereigns?by Jim DavidsonThe name "Sovereigns of the High Frontier Society" is derivative of two main sources. Victor Koman wrote an excellent book, Kings of the High Frontier which was first published by Pulpless.com as an e-Book. It was an inspiration. More than anything else, it was about individuals taking charge of their own destiny. Kings of the High Frontier Society works okay, but it excludes women. And, as we all know, "Mars needs women!" So unless you are very broad minded and suppose that women may be kings (a woman is the Duke of Normandy, after all), "Sovereigns" it is. The second major source for the name was the old L5 Society. The idea of a group of people working together, in various places, getting together on occasion, and sharing a vision of the future was what the L5 Society was all about. (And, sadly, it is not what the successor group, the Nationalist Socialist Space Society, seems to be about.) Why sovereigns? Well, you should be sovereign. You should choose to be free, sovereign, and independent. Were you really cut out to be a slave? Do you prefer to be a subject of her majesty the queen of England? Is it your desire to be a citizen, conscript, or convict? Or would you rather be your own person? The choice is up to you. And it is a very simple choice. As Etienne de la Boetie noted several hundred years ago, you don't have to take hands and push against the tyrant. Just stop holding him up. Then he'll fall over by himself. Simply declare yourself to be free. Take the equal station among the powers of the Earth to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle you. Who should be King of Mars? Really, that's a trick question. Since no one lives there, there's no reason to have anyone be king. What's more, when I write of sovereignty, I mean sovereignty over myself, over my spirit, over my intentions, and over my destiny. I don't mean some geographic monopoly of power. A much more important question is: who should be the king of me? And, my answer is, "I am the king of me." What about you? Who should be the king of thee? I don't volunteer. I'm not interested in being your king. I'm interested in working with you as equals. Which means that as far as I'm concerned, you are sovereign, independent, and free. Just like me.
