Space Companies

Here are just a few of our favorite links to space-related ventures.

http://www.armadilloaerospace.com   "Armadillo Aerospace is a small research and development team working on computer-controlled LOX/ethanol rocket vehicles, with an eye towards manned suborbital vehicle development in the coming years. The team currently consists of a bunch of guys, a girl, and an armadillo named Widget. Our fearless leader, John Carmack, will lead us to space and, well, outer space."

http://www.davinciproject.com   "The da Vinci Project, led by Brian Feeney of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was founded in 1996 and registered as a contender for the International X PRIZE on June 2, 2000. A reusable helium balloon will lift our spacecraft, "Wild Fire MK Vl" to an altitude of 70,000 to 80,000 feet. This is where Wild Fire's rocket engines will fire and propel the crew to the minimum 100 km altitude goal -- space. The reusable Rocket is capable of performing several missions to space."

http://www.jpaerospace.com   JP Aerospace calls itself America's OTHER Space Program. They have a unique plan to acheive orbital flight. An atmospheric airship will travel from the surface of the Earth to 140,000 feet. There it docks at a permanent, crewed suborbital space station parked at 140,000 feet called Dark Sky Stations (DSS). From there a very large airship launches (the initial test vehicle is 6,000 feet (over a mile) long). This airship uses buoyancy to climb to 200,000 feet. From there it uses electric propulsion to slowly accelerate. As it accelerate it dynamically climbs. Over several days it reaches orbital velocity.

http://www.bigelowaerospace.com   Bigelow Aerospace is a Las Vegas, Nevada space technology startup company that is pioneering work on expandable space station modules. An expandable module is a space structure that has a flexible outer shell, allowing conservation of diameter for launch. Once in orbit, the module is inflated, allowing greater work, play, and living area for astronauts. Bigelow Aerospace is the only private company with a spacecraft currently in orbit: the Genesis I.
